West Hwy 160 route starting March 1

Durango Transit will expand service to include Highway 160 West beginning March 1. The route will operate 7 days a week, every 30 minutes from 7:05 a.m. to 8:35 p.m.

The Hwy 160 route was eliminated in 2018 due to budget cuts. Funding was identified and dedicated to expand transit service last year, and reinstating the Hwy 160 route was the highest expansion priority because of need.

Expansion to Hwy 160 was delayed, most recently, because of significant labor shortages. Durango Transit was able to offer retention and recruitment bonuses to transit operators using COVID-relief funding for transit. The additional staff allows Durango Transit to expand and better meet the transportation needs of the community.

The route will serve fourteen new transit stops, including Manna Soup Kitchen, the Tech Center and many residential areas.
To catch the Hwy. 160 route from the downtown Durango Transit Center, passengers should board the bus at Gate 4, which departs every 30 minutes at :05 and :35. All buses are wheelchair accessible. Visit our website to view the Hwy. 160 transit route details. Download the TransLoc app to purchase affordable transit fare on your smartphone and easily locate transit stops.

Camino Crossing Design Charrette

The city of Durango has rescheduled the design charrette for city boards and commission members to Monday, March 7 from 1 to 5:30 p.m. at the Durango Public Library. The public may view the meeting virtually at DurangoGov.org/Zoom. This is the first step in the design process for the Camino Crossing project, which will design an underpass below Camino del Rio for bicyclists and pedestrians.

The design charrette will bring members of the Multimodal Advisory Board, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, Durango Renewal Partnership, Creative Economy Commission, Design Review Board, Planning Commission, Business Improvement District and the Infrastructure Advisory Board together to collaborate and design their vision for the Camino Crossing. Project engineers will guide board and commission members through a collaborative design process.

The underpass below Camino del Rio will be near 12th Street and connect to the Animas River Trail. See map. A feasibility study in 2020 determined 12th Street to be the best location for the project.

The conceptual design created from the design charrette will be taken to the public for their input. For project updates, a video about the project, and opportunities to get involved, visit DurangoGov.org/CaminoCrossing or email multimodal@DurangoGov.org
