Durango, CO: Durango City Council has regularly been meeting with citizens for office hours on a rotating schedule every other week in an effort to increase engagement with the public.
"Rotating City Council office hours has been a great way for the community to have direct connectivity with their city councilors to discuss issues, concerns, and ideas,” said Mayor Melissa Youseff. “We value the opportunity to engage with our residents directly, and we appreciate the time you are taking to communicate with us."
All five councilors have held an office hours session, with councilors Gilda Yazzie and Jessika Buell having held two sessions. During the first round of office hours, councilors were able to meet with more than 20 residents to discuss their ideas for Durango. Buell had seven residents attend, Yazzie had eight, and Youseff had four. “I had a wonderful time talking, meeting with people,” said Yazzie.
Buell said her favorite part of hosting office hours is being able to have casual conversations about “all things City of Durango” with residents she doesn’t normally get a chance to sit down with.
The next scheduled office hours session will be with Youseff on Sept. 6, from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave. in the foyer and coffee area.
