Durango, CO: Senator Cleave Simpson and Representative McLachlan with Senator Jeff Bridges are scheduled to visit Region 9 in Southwest Colorado on Thursday, August 31st, and Friday, September 1st, 2023 as part of their ongoing efforts to engage with constituents and elected officials in the region. The purpose of their visit is to listen to the concerns, experiences, and ideas of the residents and elected representatives of this vibrant and diverse community in relation to more affordable housing in Colorado.
Senator Simpson and Representative McLachlan will be attending various events throughout the tour with Senator Bridges accompanying them. During these stops, the legislators will be open to hearing the stories, challenges, and solutions that the people of Southwest Colorado have regarding housing and related issues. This is part of an ongoing effort by Senator Bridges to hear stories, challenges, and solutions to Colorado’s housing crisis from Coloradans across the state. Every Coloradan should have the opportunity to live where they work, and Senator Simpson, Representative McLachlan, and Senator Bridges want to hear concerns from the community to better understand how to address the issues raised.
During the most recent legislative session, Senate Bill 23-213 - which aimed to address housing-related issues in Colorado - ultimately did not pass. This visit is part of ongoing efforts to better understand the needs and perspectives of the residents in the region, without taking a side in the issue.
The legislators welcome all residents and elected officials to join them at these locations to engage in constructive conversations about the challenges and opportunities facing Colorado. Their goal is to ensure that the concerns of the communities are heard and considered as part of the broader discussions regarding housing in the state.
