Durango, CO: The City of Durango has received the Government Finance Officers Association Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its 2023 budget. The award is given to governments that demonstrate excellence in budget presentation.
“We are honored to receive this prestigious award,” said Devon Schmidt, acting chief financial officer for the city. "This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our Finance Department staff. They have worked tirelessly to create a budget that is both transparent and accountable.”
The award is the highest honor bestowed by the finance offers association. The award is given to governments that meet the highest standards of budget presentation. To receive the award, a government must:
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of the budget process.
- Prepare a budget that is accurate, complete, and understandable.
- Communicate the budget to the public in a clear and concise manner.
The city's 2023 budget was evaluated by a team of independent reviewers. The reviewers found that the budget was well-organized and easy to understand. They also praised the budget for its transparency and accountability.
Schmidt continued, “We believe that a well-crafted budget is essential to good governance. It allows us to communicate our priorities to the public and to make sure that our resources are used effectively.
