The city of Durango is pleased to announce that Erin Hyder has been confirmed as the city’s new assistant city manager.
“I am incredibly excited and humbled by this opportunity,” said Hyder, who was most recently the city’s director of internal and cultural services. “As a long-time resident of our community, I have a deep commitment to do my part to help our city reach its potential. I am inspired by our community, our leadership team, our extremely dedicated city staff and look forward to partnering with City Manager José Madrigal in this position.”
Last month Hyder and other applicants met with an interview committee comprising Mike French, Suzy Phare, and Madrigal. The committee unanimously chose to appoint Hyder.
“Through the interview process Erin proved to be the most capable candidate to take on the assistant city manager position and further my vision for our city,” Madrigal said. “I know she will do a tremendous job.”
At Tuesday’s City Council Meeting, councilors confirmed the appointment of Hyder to the new position. Hyder joined the city as the human resources director in 2020 and moved into her position as the managing director of internal and cultural services in 2021.
“After spending 20 plus years in the private sector, joining the city of Durango team in November 2020 was driven by my desire to serve my community,” Hyder said. “With this promotion, I am excited to have the opportunity to influence and drive positive impact within our organization and throughout the community through partnerships with our city team and community members.”
