Durango City Manager José Madrigal has ordered fire and smoking restrictions effective immediately.
The new fire restrictions prohibit all open fires or any kind or the burning of any material of any kind on public or private property within the City of Durango. This restriction does not apply to charcoal or propane grills.
Additionally, the use of explosive materials of any kind, including but not limited to, fireworks, blasting caps, or any incendiary device which many result in the ignition of flammable material within the City is prohibited.
Smoking will be restricted in any areas that are not an enclosed building or vehicle, or while stopped in an area that is at least 3 feet in diameter from any flammable vegetation.
As this is a matter of public safety, the city hopes that residents will voluntarily comply. However, violations of this order are subject to the penalties set forth in Emergency Ordinance 2022-17.
This smoking and fire restriction order shall remain in effect until modified or revoked by further order of the city manager.
