The city of Durango, as part of the public engagement process for Downtown’s Next Step, is hosting a community open house Thursday, May 19, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fort Lewis College Center for Innovation, 835 Main Ave. Suite 225. The public will have the opportunity to provide feedback on the draft conceptual streetscape design for Downtown Main Avenue at the meeting and online May 2 - 22.
Downtown’s Next Step is an effort to shape a renewed vision for the streetscape and public spaces along Main Avenue between 5th and 14th streets, including patios, sidewalks, street trees and other landscaping, bicycle facilities, vehicle lanes and parking crosswalks.
The draft conceptual streetscape design that will be presented at the meeting was developed based on community feedback via online questionnaires and community open houses. The project team used the questionnaire results and discussion with a stakeholder group to form a vision statement and conceptual streetscape design for Downtown Main Avenue. Community members were invited to provide feedback regarding the conceptual designs at community meetings on Feb. 16 and March 31 and through two online questionnaires.
“We were pleased to have such a large response to the questionnaires,” said Savannah Lytle, planner with the city of Durango. “It’s clear our community has a deep connection to downtown Durango and we hope residents continue to engage in this process to plan thriving, inclusive and accessible spaces on downtown Main Avenue.”
Community members are invited to review and provide comments regarding the conceptual streetscape design starting Monday, May 2. Please visit DurangoGov.org/DowntownMain for links to the online conceptual streetscape plan.
