North Main ADA Improvements
North Main ADA Improvements Design
This project will improve ADA compliance and accessibility along the US Hwy 550 (North Main Avenue) corridor between 17th Street and Animas View Drive. The project involves the design of improvements to existing transit stops, sidewalk and curb and gutter up to 0.2 miles on either side of the transit stops, and ADA compliant curb ramps.
Current Status
The project was awarded and contracted for design in June, 2023. Design kicked off in July with corridor surveying and work on environmental clearances. The first public meeting is anticipated in late fall of 2023.
Project preliminary design contract: $280,000
Project funding: Senate Bill 260 $2,500,000; Senate Bill 267 $2,000,000; Local match from 2015 Half Cent Sales and Use Tax $1,125,000
Project Scope
The North Main ADA Improvement project will design sidewalk improvements adjacent to transit stops, upgrades to existing curb ramps and installation of new ADA compliant curb ramps as required, and improve transit stop facilities along US Highway 550 (North Main Avenue) between 17th Street and Animas View Drive. The improvements will address deficiencies to approximately 17 transit stops identified in the 2016 ADA Transition Plan and improve accessibility along North Main Avenue. Transit stop improvements will include transit shelters, expanded landing pads, benches, and bike racks where possible.
This project was awarded funding from the Colorado Department of Transportation through two Senate Bill fundings, 260 and 267. This funding is specific to design and construction of the aforementioned scope and will require coordination and compliance with CDOT standards.
It is anticipated that design will be completed in 2024 and construction will start soon thereafter.
A public meeting is anticipated in late fall 2023. Please check back for more details.
