Going Solar in the City of Durango

With close to 300 days of sunshine every year, Southwest Colorado is a great place to go solar!

City of Durango Renewable Energy Goals
Recognizing the many benefits of local clean energy, the City of Durango's Sustainability Action Plan (SAP) set the goal of generating 25% of the City's electricity consumption via on-site renewables by 2025.

The City has installed a 19.7kWp solar PV system on the roof of the Durango - La Plata Airport Terminal building as well as aerobic digestion at the Water Reclamation Facility and Solar Thermal on the roof of the Recreation Center.

energy generation. In 2017, the City of Durango was awarded a Silver SolSmart designation and in January, 2019, the City was awarded Gold SolSmart designation, the highest level of recognition available. The designation rewards actions that the City has taken to make it cheaper and easier for residents and businesses to go solar. The SolSmart initiative is a national program funded by the U.S. Department of Energy - find out more here.
