Art on Loan Program

The City of Durango's Public Art Commission is seeking two volunteers to join the selection committee for the Art on Loan program. The Art on Loan program will display works of art along the Animas River Trail and other public locations for a one-year period. Approximately five artists will be selected to display their works in public locations within the city of Durango and receive a $500 honorarium as well as recognition and an opportunity for sales. About Public Art

The City of Durango’s public art program is administered by the Public Art Commission. Public art refers to any visual work of art including:

  • sculpture
  • painting
  • fountains
  • mosaics
  • murals
  • graphic arts
  • printmaking
  • drawing
  • photography
  • ceramics
  • stained glass
  • fiber art
  • wood working
  • metal work
  • mixed media

The Public Art Collection (Map) is displayed around Durango in open City-owned areas, inside City-owned facilities, or in areas designed as public areas.

Art donations are encouraged and welcomed. Each donation is considered individually and can be permanent or on a long-term basis.

Proposals for donations will be forwarded to the Public Art Commission (PAC) for review. The PAC may form a subcommittee for additional review. For more detailed information, please refer to the Public Art Master Plan.

Community Art Display at The Durango Community Recreation Center

The community wing of the Durango Community Recreation Center features monthly displays of local artwork. Artists of all mediums are invited to display their artwork in the community wing hallway, which is located in the eastern portion of the Recreation Center. Each artist, whose application is accepted, will be invited to display their artwork for one month. Please visit Community Art Display for an application and a list of guidelines.

Animas River Greenway

The City of Durango also offers art along the Animas Riverfront residents who walk, bike, raft and tour along the Animas River Greenway. Please refer to theAnimas Art Master Plan for more detailed information.

 

Public Art Maintenance

The City of Durango owns several art pieces. From time to time these pieces need to be cleaned or maintained. These cleanups are usually scheduled once or twice a year. Your help in this area would be greatly appreciated.
