Join the Durango Public Library to Celebrate Smokey Bear’s 75th Birthday

Durango Public Library

Children and their families are invited to celebrate Smokey Bear’s 75th Birthday on Saturday August 24, 2019. The celebration, from 10:30 to 11:30 am, will include music by the San Juan String Band, activities, birthday cake, and an appearance by guest of honor Smokey Bear. Children will have the opportunity to meet and have their photos taken with Smokey. The event is being hosted in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service.

Since 1944, Smokey Bear has protected America's forests from unwanted, human-caused fire. Smokey – one of the most-loved issue ambassadors of our time – and his signature phrase, “Only you can prevent wildfires,” are truly iconic. His message of wildfire prevention is the center of the longest-running PSA campaign in our nation's history.

All Durango Public Library programs are free and open to the public. Visit DurangoGov.org/Library for an event calendar or call the Library at 970-375-3380.
