Steve Redding to Be Honored as the 2018 Library Community Champion

Recognizing that the success of any public library is enhanced and sustained by dedicated citizens, the Durango Public Library Advisory Board will single out certain individuals for particular appreciation through its Library Community Champion initiative. The awarding of this personal distinction honors singular achievement and commitment on behalf of the Library and, in turn, the community. The Durango Public Library Advisory Board has selected to honor Steve Redding as the 2018 Library Community Champion.

Steve was a member of the Library Advisory Board from 2006-2015, where he served as Chair for multiple years and continues to serve as Chair Emeritus. He has also served on the Friends of the Library Board, where until recently he was the Vice-Chair. Steve played a pivotal role in advocating for a new library, including being named the Chair of the “Yes for Durango Library Bonds” committee and the Chair of the Library’s grand opening committee.
He ensured a café was in the building plans and worked to get the café outfitted and off the ground. This is just a sampling of the work Steve has accomplished on behalf of the Library and the community.

Steve will be honored and recognized at two events.  On September 26 at 3:30pm, there will be an open reception at the Durango Public Library, 1900 E 3rd Ave., Durango CO 81301.  Light refreshments will be served. On Tuesday October 2 at 6:30pm, a proclamation will be read at the Durango City Council meeting at City Hall, 949 E 2nd Ave. in Durango, CO.  Members of the community are invited to attend each event.  For more information, please contact Durango Public Library Director Sandy Irwin at
sandy.irwin@durangogov.org or 970-375-3389.
