Durango, CO:  On June 27th, 2018, the badly decomposed remains of a human body were discovered in the wooded area just west of Ella Vita Court.  The Durango Police Department has been investigating the nature of this death since the discovery of the body. Recently, through forensic science, an official identification has been made as well as a ruling on the manner of death.

The victim has been identified as 48-year-old Dylan Gerald Douglas of Durango. Mr. Douglas’ death has been officially ruled a homicide by the Coroner.

The last known contact with Mr. Douglas was on May 18th, 2018, shortly after he was released from the La Plata County Jail.  On that day Mr. Douglas was on Ella Vita Court near where his body was later discovered.

Mr. Douglas moved around frequently, and we know he spent time in the homeless camp as well as different friend’s houses for days at a time.

The Durango Police Department is seeking anyone with information in relation to Mr. Douglas’ death or anyone who had contact with Mr. Douglas on or after May 18th of this year.  Every piece of information is valuable in this case, no matter how slight it may be. If you have information to give, please call Detective Josh Newman with the Durango Police Department at 970-375-4733 or Crime Stoppers at 970-247-1112.

The Durango Police Department would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Douglas. This is a devastating situation for any family and we hope they find peace and comfort in the days ahead.
