Attempted Armed Robbery Suspect Sought

Detectives with the Durango Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for 38- year-old Durango resident Shayne Ray Chavez in connection with the attempted Armed Robbery of three female motorcyclists on August 22, 2018 in the alley at 900 Main Avenue. Mr. Chavez is still atlarge and we are asking the public for any information that would lead to his arrest.

Shayne Ray Chavez is described as a Hispanic male, 5 feet 6 inches tall, brown hair, brown eyes and approximately 160 pounds. Mr. Chavez has several tattoos on his forearms. He is considered armed and dangerous. The public is advised, do not attempt to apprehend this suspect without law enforcement. Mr. Chavez is known to frequent Aztec and Farmington, New Mexico as well as Durango, Colorado.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Mr. Chavez is asked to call Central Dispatch at 970- 385-2900 or Crime Stoppers at 970-247-1112 or Detective Josh Newman at 970-375-4733. Detectives want to thank area businesses that assisted with additional video surveillance which led to the identification of the suspect in this case. #
