Durango Public Library Promotes Literacy through One Book 4 Colorado

Durango Public Library is promoting early-childhood reading by providing a free picture book to every four-year-old in Durango, April 9 – April 23, while supplies last, as part of the statewide One Book 4 Colorado program.

Families of four-year-olds can stop by the Durango Public Library during regular library hours starting Monday, April 9 to pick up a copy of the book in either English or Spanish.  One Book 4 Colorado books will also be available at Sunnyside and Fort Lewis Mesa Branch Libraries.  Preschools and childcare providers are invited to participate; contact the Library at 970-375-3380 for details.

This year’s One Book 4 Colorado finalists are: Penguins Love Colors by Sarah Aspinall, A Pet For Fly Guy by Ted Arnold, and Groovy Joe: Dance Party Countdown by Eric Litwin. The winning book will be announced on April 9, the day the book giveaways begin throughout the state.

One Book 4 Colorado is a statewide initiative aiming to support family reading at home and instill a love of learning in Colorado children.  One Book 4 Colorado is the result of collaboration between Reach Out and Read Colorado, the Colorado State Library, public libraries, the private sector, and the foundation community.  It is modeled after the successful Preschool One Book One Denver program originated by the Denver Preschool Program.

More than 75,000 copies of this year’s One Book 4 Colorado book will be distributed at local public library events throughout the state.
