Spring Cleanup

*Set items out in the alley or the curbside (where alleys are not available) the weekend before your collection week. *

The City of Durango citywide spring cleanup begins on Monday, April 9th, 2018 and concludes on May 4th, 2018.  Crews will be moving through the residential neighborhoods picking up the below items:

  • Furniture
  • Large appliances
  • Scrap metal, drywall, fencing, carpeting, tiles, and open dried paint cans
  • Tree trimmings and branches less than 8 feet in length and less than 8 inches in diameter
  • Bagged or boxed loose brush and leaves

The schedule for pick-up is as follows:

April 9-13: Areas south of 15th St. and west of 9th Ave., including residential areas of Hwy 160 W and Hwy 160 E (Three Springs) located within the city limits.

April 16-20: Areas north of 15th St. to the north city limits, paralleling Main to the east and west, including Animas City area.

April 23-27: West side subdivisions, including Crestview, Needham, Rockridge, and Junction Street areas.

April 30 – May 4: East side subdivisions including Riverview, North College, Hillcrest and SkyRidge areas.

Residents can sign up for reminders by visiting DurangoRecycles.com. Residents can type in their home address to view a personalized collection calendar and sign up for free reminders by email, phone call or text message.  Signing up for reminders includes notification of special events such as Spring and Fall Cleanup, holiday schedule changes and unanticipated service disruption.

This curbside service is only available for city residents and only during designated pickup times; once crews collect along the designated pickup area, they will not return.

The City of Durango will be increasing enforcement of illegal dumping. Anyone who suspects illegal dumping activity is encouraged to report it by calling 970-385-2900.  An illegal dumping violation carries up to a $1,000.00 fine.

Residents are asked to place materials in the alley for collection, or curbside in areas of town where there are no alleys. Please separate piles of yard waste and scrap metal. No other waste will be collected. Please ensure trash is secured in the trashcan (not simply left out in the open) for the safety of wildlife.

To assist the City crews, residents are also asked to keep cleanup items and brush at least two feet from fences, trees, bushes, gas meters, hydrants, power poles, and connection boxes since heavy equipment is used to load waste into trucks. If your pile cannot safely be picked up, it will be left in place. Please be careful not to block driving lanes or sidewalks.

The City’s spring citywide cleanup program offers residents an opportunity to dispose of the designated items at no extra charge. Funding for this program comes from the City of Durango General Fund. For more information or questions about the citywide cleanup program, please contact 970-375-4903 or visit www.durangogov.org/cleanup.
