Durango Police seeking information on Hate Crime

The Durango Police Department is seeking information on criminal mischief that occurred over the past two months in the Three Springs area that is being classified by the Durango Police Department as a Hate Crime.

On September 21, 2017, the Durango Police Department took a report of a large swastika drawn on a garage door at a residence in the 400 block of Clear Spring Drive, in the Three Springs neighborhood. Further investigation by the Durango Police Department revealed that two other incidents similar in nature occurred at the same residence, but were unreported.

We’ve also recently learned of an additional incident that occurred last week involving a swastika that was scratched into the side of a vehicle parked near the hospital in Three Springs.

The Durango Police Department takes these types of crimes very seriously, especially when they target citizens based on race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation.  We encourage anyone with information to please report these crimes when they occur so they can be investigated right away. We are asking anyone with information to please come forward.

We currently have two officers investigating these crimes.  If you have information, please contact Officer Harper or Officer Doocy via Dispatch at 970-385-2900.
