City of Durango Highlighted for Sustainable Purchasing and Emissions Tracking

Durango is the first community in the nation to be featured in a series of case studies developed jointly by the Green Electronics Council (GEC) and ICLEI on how communities use tools to achieve sustainability goals. The City of Durango has been selected as a case study for the use of Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) registered information technology products and the ClearPath Emissions tracking software to achieve the City’s sustainability goals.

The full case study can be found at www.epeat.net/city-durango.  It provides an overview of the City’s sustainability initiatives along with key achievements in the purchase of sustainable electronics.

EPEAT is the leading global ecolabel for information and communication technology products. The City of Durango has exclusively purchased IT products certified under this program for at least the last 5 years. As a result of the purchases made in 2016 alone, the City will save 179,000kWh of electricity and 31.6 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions over the product lifetimes.

This spotlight on the City’s sustainability practices by two leading national organizations follows Durango’s achievement of 3-STAR designation and recognition for sustainability leadership under the STAR Communities framework in June 2017.
