Twin Buttes Open Space Controlled Burn scheduled to begin June 1st

The Durango Parks and Recreation Department is working with Durango Fire Protection District and Twin Buttes to complete a prescribed burn of slash piles from fire mitigation in the Twin Buttes Open Space.  Prescribed fire smoke may affect your health.  For more information please visit https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/cdphe/health-messaging-prescribed-fire-smoke

The goal of this maintenance project is to decrease wildfire risk by burning the slash piles from previous fire mitigation efforts in the area.  The area will remain open to the public, however users should be aware that Durango Fire Protection District staff and vehicles will be in the area.  Burning will commence on Thursday June 1, 2017 and continue through Friday June 30, 2017 dependent upon weather conditions. This event had previously been scheduled for May but due to weather conditions the schedule has been adjusted.
