Functions & Responsibilities

The Municipal Court maintains files on every summons issued by the City of Durango and Fort Lewis College police departments and La Plata County Animal Protection for violations of municipal law. The court also hears all cases involving such violations and reports applicable convictions to the appropriate authorities.

The Court Administrator and Court Clerks I and II act as support to the Municipal Judges and handle the daily administrative duties of the Municipal Court. The Administrator is responsible for maintaining accurate court records.

The Municipal Court office is open Monday – Friday between 7:30 AM and 3:30 PM.

Payment Information:

Not all citations may be paid online without first appearing in court, including citations for no proof of insurance, all citations involving an accident, all citations for traffic offenses greater than 4 points; and all citations issued to juveniles.

By paying your citation online, you are acknowledging either you have previously entered a guilty plea in open court OR you are entering a guilty plea to all charges at this time. If the defendant does not wish to plead guilty, an appearance in court is required.

Please DO NOT attempt to pay La Plata County citations through this website.
